About Me
I am a self-taught artist living in Issaquah, WA. While growing up, I frequently captured the world around me in sketches that spanned across various art forms. As a child, Art was something I loved to do in my free time but I never thought it could be anything more than that. I was part of a society where everyone around me was pursuing a career in science, engineering or medicine. I didn’t pursue the callings of my heart and conformed to the path that society had laid out for me. I pursued my Masters in Business Management and worked in the corporate world for few years. Little did I know that I would ultimately pursue my passion as a profession.
In 2008, I moved to the US and met my Art mentor who was an epitome of someone following her heart. She encouraged me to answer my calling and I immersed myself in studying different art forms. This process solidified my liking for abstract form that gave me the freedom to reflect my thoughts and emotions which is not bound by the visual reality.
I carved out a unique abstract style that is bold and vibrant. My art gives hope and is full of exciting colors and textures which represents positive energy and spirit towards life. Today I actively participate in local art exhibitions and love being an art instructor in schools, local art galleries and senior centers. Please see all my exhibitions here.
I am also the founder of Crimson Canvas Arts, a company that mentors budding artists and is present in more than 10 different schools in Issaquah and Redmond. In today’s busy world where art has taken a backseat, my goal is to nurture budding artists to become future creative thinkers and problem solvers!
Podcast Interview
I’m excited to share that I participated in a podcast interview that features artists and educators. The podcast is dedicated to discussions of teaching art, making art, and how those things overlap and feed each other. Listen to my conversation with Rebecca Pots where I talked about my life as an artist and entrepreneur and how I pushed through self-doubt and continue to make Art. https://www.teachingartistpodcast.com/episode-35-priyanka-parmanand/
Story of Crimson Canvas Arts
I’m the founder of Crimson Canvas Arts, a company that mentors budding artists.
In today’s world, Art” has taken a back seat in our children’s busy life and I wanted to do something about it, at least on local level. I wanted to give kids a platform where they can learn quality art lessons and experience the joy of creating art. That’s when I registered my company “Crimson Canvas Arts”. I started teaching few children on my kitchen table and that led to classes and workshops and the opportunity to enter local schools and community centers.
Last year I had over 10 locations including schools and local community centers. My team is also working with City of Issaquah and City of Redmond and offering our art program as a part of their summer camps and weekly art classes. I have offered art at senior centers and pioneered Teen art club for as a part of community program.
Since March 2020, I have created an online platform where youth can still access art during this daunting time.
Starting my own company while raising two young children is no piece of cake. It is challenging. Every day is a learning curve and that’s how we grow. I’m focused on growing Crimson Canvas Arts so children can learn and experience the world of Art which seem to fade away in today’s fast world.
